Smoking Cessation: the First E-book Published

Illustrating novel approaches to smoking cessation management
Thirty-six international experts on cigarette addiction and smoking cessation have contributed to the first electronic book on smoking cessation.
The e-book titled “Advances in Smoking Cessation” will be launched by its prestigious publisher <<Future Medicine>> and the University of Catania, on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day, organized by the World Health Organization.
The Editors, Riccardo Polosa, Professor of Medicine at the University of Catania, Director of the Center for Prevention and Cure of Tabagism and Scientific Advisor of LIAF; and Pasquale Caponnetto, Behavioral Researcher and Clinical Psychologist at the University of Catania, are world experts of smoking behavior and tobacco control.
“Advances in Smoking Cessation” includes 20 chapters dedicated to a variety of innovative aspects ranging from bio-psychosocial elements of cigarette addiction to prevention and management.
<< We are indebted to all those who have contributed to this ambitious editorial project, the first of its kind – said Prof. Polosa – and we are sure to offer to the reader a truly stimulating and innovative learning experience>>.
The ambition of “Advances in Smoking Cessation” is to meet these specific challenges and to provide a new unconventional foundation that may inspire and advance the stagnant field of smoking cessation. The structure of “Advances in Smoking Cessation” was carefully designed to reflect this philosophy.
<< This e-book considers ground-breaking yet practical aspects of smoking behavior and its cessation – said Dr Caponnetto – with the aim of illustrating new futuristic approaches to smoking cessation management >>.
Great emphasis has been placed on the dynamics underlying the chronic relapsing nature of tobacco dependence, on the emerging alternative strategies including reduced-risk noncombustible products, and on the central role of the smoker as a person with their needs, fears and comorbidities.
This e-book is likely to be useful for the busy clinician who wants to gain a realistic approach to the topic of smoking cessation, for those involved in smoking cessation and tobacco control research, and finally it can be recommended as a reference handbook for training courses for the new generation of smoking cessation therapists.
